Floyd Kizzie Sr., age 77, passed away on Monday, March 16, 2015. Floyd was born on November 28, 1937 in Monessen PA to the late Gertrude and John Kizzie. Floyd attended Monessen High School, later enlisting in the United States Army in December of 1954 and proudly served in the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in May of 1971. While in the military he was a member of the elite U.S. Special Forces. Floyd served three tours in Vietnam and was awarded the Bronze Star along with other commendations for bravery and valor. After his military service ended, Floyd was employed with Westinghouse Electric as a nuclear service technician.
Floyd was a devoted brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He met and married Vicki Rawlins in 1972. Floyd was an active member of the Mon Valley NAACP, Elks Lodge No. 697, American Legion Post 704 and the Monessen Historical Society. Floyd held several leadership positions in military and civilian organizations. In 2012, Floyd participated in the Veteran's History Project, reporting his experiences in Vietnam. This project was in conjunction with California University of Pennsylvania in which staff and students interviewed Floyd and recorded his remembrances. As a part of the Library of Congress American Folk Center, these experiences will be preserved as a part of history.
Floyd departed this life on March, 16, 2015. Beloved husband of Vicki Kizzie. He is survived by and leaves to mourn his loss 5 sons and three daughters: Floyd Kizzie, Jr. (Heidrus), Keith Kizzie (Coyea), Carlton Kizzie (Sarah), Juan Kizzie (Tara), Baron Rawlins (Rayme), Joy Kizzie, Tiffany Rae Kizzie, and Troy Michelle Kizzie; brother of John Kizzie, Frankie Kizzie and Beatrice Tipton. In addition , Floyd is survived by 14 grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
Interment will be at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville PA
