Geraldine H. Harvey, age 84, passed away on Friday, October 24, 2014.  Geraldine was born on September 28, 1930 to the late Ida and Joseph Brock in Pittsburgh, PA.  She attended Fifth Avenue High School and in 1950 married William James Hawthorne. Jr.  From this union was born son, William J. Hawthorne, III.

Geraldine accepted the Lord at a young age and attended Webster Avenue Christian Missionary Alliance Church.  She was a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for over twenty years and a dedicated community activist.  She formed a Cub Scout chapter in Beltzhoover and served as President of the Missionary Auxiliary.  Geraldine retired from the Pittsburgh Public School system and afterwards continued to tutor children after school.  Her son recruited her to work in his agency, A For The People Insurance Company, where she continued to work for over ten years.

Geraldine enjoyed traveling, writing/reading poetry, and being involved in all aspects of church activities and outreach.  She enjoyed participating with the senior group at the Beltzhoover Senior Center. Geraldine also enjoyed gospel music and sang with many choirs.

On his last visit on Thursday, October 23, Geraldine said to her son, William, " All I want you to do is stand me up and give me a hug".

Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents, Ida and Joseph Brock and her sister, the late Marie Farrow.  Geraldine leaves behind to cherish her memory, beloved son William Hawthorne and his girlfriend Sharron who was devoted to Geraldine; four grandchildren who were her pride and joy: Charisma, William IV, Leyland and Benjamin; two great grandchildren; 3 sisters: Clara Brock, Carolyn Olasewers and Janet Willis, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, her church family and friends.
