Eva Jeannette Stanton was born on August 27, 1929 in Braddock, PA to the late Algia Gary and Daisy (Cheatham) Gary. She was 1 of 5 children. She was educated in the Braddock school system and graduated from Braddock High in 1947.
Jeannette was baptized by Rev. L.E. Dukes at the age of 11 which was then Bethel Baptist Church of Braddock. She began singing at an early age in the Junior Choir and Junior Chorus and later in the Young Adult Chorus & Senior Choir. She also sang with the Pittsburgh Chorale East and Schola, both groups sang her favorites (Classical & Hymns).
Jeannette served as supervisor for the Junior Missionaries, president of the Pastors’ Aid, and taught the young people’s Sunday school Class. She provided leadership for Bethel Baptist 60th Annual Old Homecoming Day held on March 17, 1996.
At Unity Baptist Church, Jeannette was an active member in the Senior Missionary Ministry and Sunday School, Bible Study and Sunday Worship Services. She was recognized for faithful service to Unity Baptist Church at the AUBA Congress of Education Rosamond C. Kay Fellowship Dinner. She was an Honoree at the Pennsylvania Baptist State Convention Western Region Women’s Ministry “Women of Distinction”, The Pittsburgh City Council declared Saturday, August 10, 2019, to be “Women of Distinction Day” sponsored by Rev. Ricky V. Burgess.
Jeannette worked at Westinghouse Electric Corporation in East Pittsburgh for 15 years and retired in 1984. After Westinghouse, she was employed at the Therapeutic Center for Children. She enjoyed traveling throughout the United Stated and Canada.
Jeanette is preceded in death by her Husband: Ernest Stanton; Son: Edward Pepper; Brother: Algia Gary; Sisters: Marguerite Garey, Shirley Everett, and Ella Jackson; and Paul Pepper.
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter: Beverly Ann Dixon (Larry); and Stepdaughter: Joyce Ann Todd; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services will be held at Unity Baptist Church. Visitation: Friday, January 6, 2023 4pm-6pm
