Harrison Alvin Perry, 88 of West Newton, PA passed away peacefully Thursday morning September 8th, 2022 in Jefferson Hospital. He was born December 30th, 1933 in West Newton, the son of the late Bruce W. Perry and Gustava Black Perry.
He was a longtime member of St. Paul AME Church, where he served as a trustee and choir member. He was a graduate of West Newton High School. He worked as a Steel Worker for many years before becoming self employed at Perry Scrap Metals
Alvin was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, serving 4 years as an Airman. During his service, he was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal. Alvin was a lifetime member of the NAACP and a member of the West Newton Lion’s Club.
Alvin was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish, and golf. Alvin loved spending time with his family and above all he loved the Lord.
Alvin will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He leaves to mourn his devoted and loving wife of 62 years Anna Jean Perry; His children: Margo Perry of Pittsburgh, PA; Harrison Perry, Jr. and wife Tamethea of Jefferson, GA, and Rodger Perry of West Newton, PA; His 5 grandchildren: Bruce Perry, Jordan Perry, Alexis Perry, Margo Perry, and Danielle Eugene; and 2 great grandchildren; His sister: Gloria Carlisle of Virginia
Harrison was preceded in death by his parents Bruce W. and Gustava Perry and his brothers Charles Perry, William Perry, and Arnold Perry.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 15, 2022 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 403 2nd St. Ext., West Newton, PA 15089. Visitation will be 10am to 12pm and service immediately follows at 12pm. Internment: West Newton Cemetery.
