Roderick “Ronnie” Craighead Sr., 77 of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania peacefully departed this earthly life on Friday, February 4, 2022. He was born March 18, 1944, to the parents, father Theodore Craighead and mother Alice Louise Craighead who preceded his death and also a brother William (Punchie) Craighead. He leaves behind a sister to mourn, Michelle (Mickey) Craighead. He was the youngest of three children.
Ronnie, as a teenager caddied at Churchill Golf Course in Pittsburgh, PA where he developed a love for golf. He was a graduate of Pittsburgh Public School - Schenley High School. He loved to swim and was a lifeguard. After graduation he became employed at Lutz's Meat Market on Centre Avenue in the Hill District in Pittsburgh, PA. He began his apprenticeship as a butcher, known today as a meat cutter. Years later his career began with the Kroger Super Markets stores traveling throughout the city of Pittsburgh, even as far as Baden, PA weekly to work.
Ronnie was employed at Prime Kosher as a butcher for many years. He then went on to work for Kirby where he became the top salesman, from there he started his own successful Kirby business. Ronnie also worked for Giant Eagle as the Manager of the Meat Department which he retired from. To stay active after retirement, he worked for A1 transit where he enjoyed driving the school bus for Pittsburgh Public Schools.
Ronnie was a people person, no one was a stranger to him. Being in his presence, you are guaranteed to smile and laugh. His all-time favorite hobby was Playing Golf and spending time in his man-cave in the attic. He loved spending time with his family especially during the holidays. His favorite Christmas song was “The 12 Days of Christmas” which we all had parts to sing. Ronnie’s favorite part was “2 turtle doves” which he always happened to say late, but it was still always at the perfect time.
Ronnie is survived by his wife Dolores Anita Craighead, and two children from a previous marriage, son Roderick Craighead Jr. (Summarae) of Swissvale, PA and daughter Wilma Princess Craighead (Judith) of Swissvale, PA. He is also survived by his son Leon Moore (Rochelle) of East Pittsburgh, PA and his daughters Sharon Moore of Hazelwood, PA and Ramona Haralson (Steven) of Flower Mound, TX; 15 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 5 great- great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members.
Services will be held at Aldrich Funeral Homes on Wednesday, February 9, 2022. Visitation: 10am-12pm Service: 12pm Interment: Homewood Cemetery
